Don't Fear The Reaper: Skull Jewelry
6th Jan 2013
We sell a lot of skull jewelry, and people that we encounter (usually older people like grandmother and company) are like:
Oh my god, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
Skull Jewelry?! LOOK AT LIFE AND YOUR CHOICES!
If they only knew how well skull jewelry do at our store. Everything else sometimes gets ignored and people are adorning themselves with skulls like they are getting ready for their own funeral. But hey skulls don't have to mean death you know. I mean remember your brain lives in a skull and you are living if you are reading this article :-). Skulls are very hot right, however we hope not TOO popular. You know things get too popular and then no one wants to look at it ever again or for another 50 years. We like skull jewelry because skulls are badass but they make a statement; mysterious statement that can make one wonder about the wearer. Is she/he some kind of of rebel? Who does she think she is? Is she a Goth? What is she trying to say? I think I’m afraid but I'm curious. Maybe she's into the dark arts...
But people know so little about history. Did you know that long ago, skull art was the thing, a very good thing at that! People wrote poems about it, painted art about it, even architecture centering it. And that genre was called MEMENTO MORI,remembering your morality! There is a more positive viewpoint of memento mori? That more popular view point is CARPE DIEM also known seize the day(or regret the time you lost)... But it wasn't just known in Europe but also in other cultures where it’s even a national holiday. That national holiday you may know it as All Saints Day, is known as it as Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico and other communities. So before you judge skull jewelry or people who wear it, research it and know there is more to the story when it comes to the symbolism of skulls.
