Well whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day, the history of Valentine's Day is much more different than you thought.

Valentine’s Day derived from the ancient rites of Lupercalia. Lupercalia was a pagan festival that lasted a many centuries long after the introduction of Christianity. Lupercalia festivities included men drawing lots for available women; these couples then spent their time together during the festival with sex being the main agenda (hubba hubba). Christians tried different methods to try to make the cleaner version of Lupercalia popular but most were unsuccessful compared to the former more exciting festivities of Lupercalia. It became too difficult to conquer the celebration of the Lupercalia and currently the church rarely celebrates St.Valentine. However, the celebration of love and romance Valentine’s Day is a great success. The heart is the major symbol of love as seen everywhere at this time.

The heart symbolizes the very center of the being, both physical and spiritual and is intertwined with the soul. If you look at the shape of the human heart it is the same of an upside down triangle hence giving its popular shape that appears on Valentine’s Day, stickers or even emojis. The heart became recently associated with the love in the middle ages and has became synonymous with love.
